How to Change the Facebook App to ‘Most Recent'

Hate the ‘Top Stories’ view on Facebook? Accidentally upgrade to the new version and can’t figure out how to change it? Figure no more!

For over a year now, my Facebook app looked different than most users, it looks like the above. I believe Facebook has rolled out this design out to everyone at this point, and it’s just in time for me to discover this tid bit.

Facebook likes controlling what you see. They want you to see content that they think you’ll like. If you’re a liberal, and you use the ‘Top Stories’ view, and you have a significant amount of friends, you will see left-leaning stories, and hear from the friends you interact with the most. Visa versa for the other side. I’ve noticed that for me, Facebook has chosen five or six friends that they think I love hearing from, and a few pages that I like, with articles that it thinks would be compelling to me.

For me personally, I’m not a big fan of this categorization, myself, like many others will scroll though everything, as I don’t have very much content in my newsfeed, and when I get to something I’ve seen before, I am finished. The Top Stories view messes this up, I instead get an annoying smorgasbord of stuff, half of which I’ve already seen. Ever since Facebook rolled out this update to my phone, my experience has been significantly worse, as there didn’t seem to be a way to change see my ‘Most Recent’ feed.

It turns out that the ‘Most Recent’ feed is now in a list of other automatically generated feeds, which somewhat makes sense. Since the introduction of Google+, Facebook has had different feeds you could view. In my case, I see areas to see posts by only my coworkers, friends from my home town, friends from my current town, and my family. I understand for people who have hundreds of friends and live on Facebook this is a good feature, but nothing really for me.

To access these feeds, including the much appreciated ‘Most Recent’ feed, simply go to your context screen (the three bars), and scroll down to feeds. On my account, the ‘Most Recent’ feed was at the top.

The big downside from previous versions, is that every time you want to see your news feed this way, you will have to access it from here. I’m just grateful that it still exists!
